Ragged Mountain

Ragged Mountain Trails are part of the Ragged Mountain Natural Area maintained by the Ivy Creek Foundation and is located close to Charlottesville. The Trails are built around the Ragged Mountain Reservoir that is a part of Charlottesville's water supply.  The trails include the main trail, the round top trail, the peninsula trail and the upper lake trail.  The location is the inspiration of Edgar Allan Poe's A Tale of the Ragged Mountains which is a mystical story inspired by his jaunts through the countryside while a student at the University of Virginia in the 1820s.
