Camping Trip to Panorama Farm is rescheduled for
Saturday June 4 - Sunday June 5, 2005. The cost is 5.00 per
person.
Directions:
- Turn on to Earlysville Road from the
Rio/Hydraulic intersection.
- Go 2 miles, turn left on to Panorama Farm Rd.
- Road ends at Panorama Farms.
- Follow farm driveway to first turn on
right.
- Park in field across from trail head sign
- After everyone gets there, we will drive over
to the camping area. We will be able to park down the hill from the camp
site. One four-wheel drive will be able to shuttle gear up to the camp
site.
Approximate Schedule:
Saturday
10:00 Arrive, go to campsite and setup
camp
11:00 Trail maintenance service project
1:00 Lunch (bring a sack lunch)
2:00 Biking or Fishing
For those interested, I will be taking a
group on a beginning mountain bike ride. You MUST WEAR AN ANSI, SNELL OR
ASTM HELMET when you ride. NO EXCEPTIONS! Of course, you will also need to
bring a bike...
The campsite is a stone's throw from a small
lake that I am told is loaded with bass, sunfish, and a few catfish. Those
not biking can fish and/or give fishing advice.
4:00 Orienteering Course
For those needing the orienteering
requirement for first class, we'll have an orienteering course setup. Others
can work on gathering firewood and camp prep.
5:00 Hike
6:30 Supper (Fire available for cooking)
7:30 Campfire, stories, etc...
Sunday
8:00 Breakfast and break camp
9:30 Return to the trail head sign for pickup
Cooking:
The Panther patrol has decided to do individual
cooking for this outing.
First Class cooking requirements for new scouts
will be part of the Sherandoah trip activies. Bring a sack lunch. Supper and
breakfast can be cooked on the fire, or feel free to bring a stove.
Facilities:
None at the campsite, however there is a well
maintained portable toilet about a half mile away at the trail head parking
area. There are plenty of trees however!
Reminders:
Bring raingear! The current forecast includes a
possible thunderstorm or two.
Bring a folding chair.
Bring clothes appropriate for the activities.
Make sure your tent is rain worthy. (The troop
has some tents.)
Let me know and I'll get some tents from the
church if needed.
The forecast currently says no rain Saturday
night, but you never know.
Bring a compass if you are going to do the
orienteering course.
