Eagle
Scout Award is the highest level of advancement that a Boy Scout can
achieve. To
earn an Eagle Scout award, the boy scout must:
-
Be active in their troop and
patrol;
-
Demonstrate Scout Spirit by
living the Scout Oath and Scout Law;
-
Earn at least 21 merit badges;
-
Serve actively in a position of
responsibility in their troop (a life scout must serve at least 6 months
before becoming an Eagle Scout);
-
Take part in Service Projects;
-
Participate in a Scoutmaster
conference; and
-
Complete a board of review.
While a Life Scout, the Eagle Scout
candidate must plan, develop and give leadership to others in a service project
helpful to any religious institution, any school or their community. The project
idea must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, the troop
Scoutmaster and the troop committee, and the council or district before the
scout starts their project.
While only a few of the boys that
join Boy Scouts of America rise to the esteemed level of Eagle Scout, Troop 17
of Stonewall Jackson Council is very proud of the fact that many of its scouts
have become Eagle Scouts. We have had 80 scouts achieve Eagle Scout level
from 1938 to 2004.
